Fact of the Month

Canadian History Week / Canada Day
July 1st, 2017

It is Canada’s 150th birthday!
This year Canada’s birthday will be known as ‘Canada 150+’, to recognize the even longer history of the First Nation peoples living in the Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh area.

Some interesting Facts about Canada:

  1. The Canadian anthem is in the works of being changed to be more gender neutral. The original lyric ‘In all our sons command’, is being argued to change to ‘In all of us command’. Although there are still controversies over the grammar, we should be seeing a new change to our Canadian anthem.
  2. Tim Hortons has its own museum in Hamilton, Ontario where the company first started up.
  3. The Canadian flag did not always have a maple leaf on it. The flag changed 13 different times before it was the maple leaf.
